What is PineConnector Edge? Hosted MT5, Explained

What Is PineConnector Edge? Hosted MT5, Explained

PineConnector Edge is hosted MetaTrader 5, run by PineConnector and included in every PineConnector plan. Instead of running MT5 and the PineConnector EA on your own computer or VPS, PineConnector runs the managed MT5 terminal on its own infrastructure, and you control it from the web portal. Because nothing runs on your own machine, Edge works from any device, including a Mac. You still enter your own broker credentials and switch the terminal on yourself, so you stay in full control of your account. Edge is available now in early access.

How Is Edge Different From Running MT5 Yourself?

With the standard self-hosted setup, you run MetaTrader 5 and the PineConnector connector on a machine you own. That means keeping it online 24/7, installing updates, and fixing issues when they arise. If the machine sleeps, loses power, or disconnects, your automation stops too.

We see this surprisingly often. One trader left MetaTrader 5 open but let their laptop go to sleep, causing every alert that day to fail with an EA Not Running error. On Edge, the terminal runs on PineConnector's infrastructure instead, so it keeps working even if your laptop is off.

Edge removes that machine from the picture. PineConnector runs the managed terminal on its own infrastructure, keeps it signed in, and handles the updates, restarts and monitoring. The value here is reliability and no maintenance on your side. It is not about speed. Edge changes who runs the machine, not how the market fills your orders.

One trade-off worth knowing up front: Edge runs the PineConnector EA only. Third-party Expert Advisors are not supported on Edge, and hosted instances run MetaTrader 5 only. If your workflow depends on running other EAs alongside PineConnector, the self-hosted setup remains the right choice for you.

Feature Self-Hosted (Standard) PineConnector Edge
Where MT5 runs Your own PC or VPS PineConnector's infrastructure (managed terminal)
Works on Mac No Yes
Hardware you keep running Yours, always on None
Maintenance and updates You handle them Handled for you
Third-party EAs Supported Not supported
Who enters broker login You You
Hosting fee Separate VPS cost if you use one Included in the plan price

Do I Still Need a Windows PC or VPS?

Not with Edge. Because the MT5 terminal runs on PineConnector's infrastructure, you do not need to buy, rent, or keep any machine running yourself. You open the portal, and the terminal is already there.

This is also what finally makes automation workable for Mac users. The self-hosted PineConnector connector relies on a Windows-only capability that the Mac build of MetaTrader 5 does not include, which is why running the connector directly on a Mac has never worked. Edge sidesteps the problem entirely, because you are not running MT5 or the connector on your Mac at all. You reach the hosted terminal through the web portal, the same way you would from any other device.

How Do I Set Up Edge and Go Live?

The setup happens entirely in the PineConnector web portal:

  • Open the portal and choose a hosted terminal.
  • Enter your own broker login for the MT5 account you want to trade.
  • Activate the managed terminal (Go Live).
  • Point your TradingView alerts at PineConnector the same way you already do.

You enter the broker login yourself and you activate the terminal yourself. Credentials are encrypted in transit and at rest, and your instance is isolated to you. Setup typically takes about two minutes, and the Edge documentation walks through each screen.

What Does Edge Cost?

Nothing on top of your plan. Hosting is included in every PineConnector plan, so there is no separate Edge fee and no VPS to rent. Plans are billed monthly. Core and Plus are at launch prices today, and subscribers who join at a launch price keep that base price for as long as the same subscription stays active. Pro is $199 with no launch discount and is coming soon.

Plan Monthly price Connections and hosted MT5 Location
Core $59 launch price ($69 after the launch period) 1 New York
Plus $129 launch price ($149 after the launch period) 3 New York, London coming soon
Pro (coming soon) $199 5 New York, London coming soon

Each plan limits the number of trading accounts you can connect at once, not the number of strategies you can run, and every connection comes with its own hosted MT5 instance. If you would rather run MetaTrader 5 on your own hardware, you can self-host within the same connection limit on the same plan. Edge is included, not required. The full breakdown is on the Edge page and in our hosted MT5 pricing guide.

Is My Broker Login and Account Safe With Edge?

You enter your own broker credentials directly in the portal, and you activate the terminal yourself. Credentials are encrypted in transit and at rest, and your instance is isolated to you rather than shared with other traders. You can stop the instance from the portal at any time, and because the account is yours, you can change the password at your broker to end the connection. Your money stays with your broker, in your account, under your control. Edge simply gives the PineConnector connector a reliable, always-on place to run so your TradingView alerts reach MetaTrader 5.

Who Should Choose Edge, and Who Should Stay Self-Hosted?

Edge is the better fit if you:

  • Use a Mac and have been locked out of automation until now.
  • Do not want to buy, rent, or babysit a VPS.
  • Want your automation running around the clock without maintenance.

Self-hosting is the better fit if you:

  • Run third-party Expert Advisors alongside PineConnector, which Edge does not support.
  • Already have a VPS setup you are happy with.
  • Want the lowest-cost entry point and are comfortable managing your own machine.

Both routes send the same TradingView alerts to the same MetaTrader 5 execution. The only question is who runs the terminal: you, or PineConnector.

Because the underlying connector is the same, your TradingView alert messages do not change when you move to Edge. The syntax you already use keeps working, which means you can start out self-hosted and switch to a hosted terminal later without rebuilding your alerts or relearning the setup. That makes Edge easy to try without committing your whole workflow to it on day one.

FAQ

Does Edge work on a Mac?
Yes. The terminal runs on PineConnector's infrastructure, so you reach it from the web portal on any device, including a Mac.

Can I run other Expert Advisors on Edge?
No. Edge runs PineConnector's connector only. If you need to run third-party EAs, use the self-hosted setup instead.

Do I need my own VPS with Edge?
No. Hosting is included in every Edge plan, so there is no VPS to rent or keep running.

Do I have to give PineConnector my broker login?
Yes. A terminal that cannot log in cannot place your orders. You enter the login yourself in the portal, it is encrypted in transit and at rest, and you can stop the instance or change your broker password at any time.

Is there a trial for Edge?
No. There is no trial of any kind. The lowest-cost way to try Edge is the Core plan, which includes one hosted MT5 instance. Connect a demo account first and send a test alert before you go live.

Is Edge available now?
Yes. PineConnector Edge is available today in early access on the Core and Plus plans. The Pro plan is coming soon.

Is Edge about speed?
No. Edge is built for reliability and always-on execution, not speed. Its job is to keep your automation running without a machine of your own to maintain.
