MetaQuotes named MT5 build 5320, announced on 25 September 2025, as the last update supporting Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2008.[1] A later note complicates that history: build 6090, announced on 30 July 2026, disabled the AI Assistant on Windows 7 but also listed a Windows 7 launch fix.[2] Neither note establishes that later builds are supported on those systems.
The comparison below separates MetaQuotes' MT5 requirements from PineConnector's EA requirements and Microsoft's support lifecycle. See the MetaTrader 5 updates library for the wider build history.

What changed
Build 5320, 25 September 2025. MetaQuotes said the next desktop version would stop delivering updates to Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Server 2008. The note makes an exception for terminals using a compatibility layer on another operating system.[1]
Build 6090, 30 July 2026. MetaQuotes disabled the AI Assistant on Windows 7 because required functions were unavailable. It also listed a Windows 7 fix and advised affected users to install the new version over the existing terminal rather than uninstall it.[2]
Installation help, checked 25 September 2026. MetaQuotes names Windows 10/11; the page lists no Windows Server version.[3] PineConnector's separate EA guide lists Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.[4]
The reviewed MetaQuotes news archive contains no later reversal of the Windows 7 AI restriction through build 6230.[5] Build 6060 preceded 6090, but the 6090 note does not identify the affected earlier build. See the build 6060 guide and the AI Assistant guide.
The notes leave an unresolved distinction between ending official support and fixing a later Windows 7 launch problem. They do not identify which subsequent builds reach or have been tested on each older system.
Which Windows versions do MetaQuotes and PineConnector list?
MetaQuotes documents MetaTrader 5; PineConnector documents what its EA and DLL need inside a desktop MT5 terminal on your Windows computer or VPS.[4] A self-hosted setup must satisfy both lists.

| Windows version | MetaTrader 5 (MetaQuotes)[1][2][3] | PineConnector EA guide[4][9] |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 7 | Build 5320 named as the last update to support it. Build 6090 disabled the AI Assistant and listed a Windows 7 fix. | Not listed. |
| Windows 8 and 8.1 | Build 5320 named as the last update to support them. | Not listed. The FAQ names Windows 8 as outside the guidance. |
| Windows Server 2008 | Build 5320 named as the last update to support it. | Not listed. |
| Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 | Not named in either note or in the installation help. | Not listed. The FAQ names Server 2012 as outside the guidance. |
| Windows 10 and 11 | Listed as "Windows 10/11". | Listed. |
| Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 | Not named in the installation help. | Listed. |
Microsoft lists general end-of-support dates for Windows 8 on 12 January 2016, Windows 7 on 14 January 2020, Windows 8.1 on 10 January 2023 and Windows 10 on 14 October 2025.[6] Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 reached end of support on 10 October 2023, with Extended Security Updates available until 13 October 2026.[7] An application compatibility listing does not establish ongoing Microsoft security support. Check the exact Windows edition and any Extended Security Updates coverage before choosing an operating system.[6]

In Microsoft's version numbers, Windows Server 2012 R2 shares 6.3 with Windows 8.1, Server 2012 shares 6.2 with Windows 8, and Server 2008 R2 shares 6.1 with Windows 7. Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 share 10.0 with Windows 10 and 11.[8] MetaQuotes does not say whether its cut-off follows these numbers, and names Server 2008 but not 2008 R2.
What it means for a TradingView-to-MT5 workflow
TradingView runs alerts on its own servers,[20] but in a self-hosted setup the MT5 terminal and PineConnector EA must stay running and connected on your computer or VPS.[10] The Windows version matters on that machine.
MetaQuotes' Live Update checks for platform updates when the terminal connects to a trade server, and cannot be disabled through that system.[11] On the four systems in the 5320 note, build 5320 was the last update MetaQuotes said it would deliver.[1] A terminal that stays on 5320 lacks every later change in the MT5 build table.
The EA's requirement is PineConnector's, not MetaQuotes'. Its MT5 guide asks for a Windows environment that supports the EA and its DLL, maintained by you or your VPS provider.[4] Its FAQ says the self-hosted guidance specifies Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2016 and newer, excluding Windows 8 and Server 2012.[9]
What are the options for an old PC or VPS image?
Three possible migration paths follow from the documented setup options. Hardware eligibility, the selected Windows edition and provider support still need checking.

- Upgrade Windows on the same machine. Windows 10 and 11 are on both lists.[3][4] Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025, and says PCs on an unsupported Windows version are unlikely to meet Windows 11's requirements.[6] You maintain Windows, MT5 and the EA.
- Move to a newer Windows VPS image. On this self-hosted path you connect to a remote Windows desktop, install MT5 and the EA there, and keep that machine running.[13] If you need a new server, ForexVPS (affiliate link) offers Windows VPS plans for MetaTrader. To match PineConnector's EA guide, the image needs a Windows version from that guide's list; MetaQuotes' installation help names no Windows Server version.[3] The VPS guide for automated trading covers what a VPS leaves you to maintain.
- Use hosted MT5 with PineConnector Edge. PineConnector Edge hosts MT5 with the PineConnector EA, so no terminal is installed on your computer. Edge does not host third-party EAs; its EA settings can be changed in Portal → Edge → EA Settings.[14] The hosted terminals' Windows version, and when they take a new MT5 build, are not documented; Terminal info in Portal shows the build in use.[15] See what PineConnector Edge is for its scope.
MetaQuotes' own virtual hosting is not a documented path: PineConnector's MT5 guide does not support its Windows DLL workflow in MetaQuotes' built-in VPS service.[4]
Decide which terminal is connected before alerts resume, because an alert addressed to a License ID goes to every account connected to that ID.[14] The VPS-to-Edge migration checklist sequences one such switch.
What to check
-
Your Windows version. Microsoft's instructions, written for Windows 10 and 11, are to type
winver, open Settings, System, About, or runsysteminfoat a command prompt.[16] Compare the result with both table columns. - Your MT5 build. Use the methods in the MT5 updates library, or Terminal info on Edge.[15] Journal entries with LiveUpdate in the Source column record each update stage.[11]
- A terminal that will not start on Windows 7. MetaQuotes' build 6090 advice is to reinstall the new version on top, not uninstall.[2] Installing over an existing copy keeps previous settings except default profiles, templates and the standard set of MQL5 programs.[3]
- The EA after any reinstall or move. Check the EA files in this terminal's MQL5, Experts folder, Allow algorithmic trading, Allow DLL imports, the Algo Trading button, the EA's own permissions and the License ID, then confirm the account in Portal.[4] An EA attached to a chart reloads when the terminal restarts.[17] For missing licence details, PineConnector's FAQ lists an unsupported Windows version as one possible cause among several.[12]
- A VPS image. Confirm its Windows version with the provider, and ask what its session policy does when you disconnect the remote-desktop viewer.[13]
- One demo test. Send one demo order alert and confirm the resulting trade in the broker account. PineConnector's test guide separates this from a connection test, which checks whether the fixed test message reaches the connected setup and produces the expected processing record.[18]
What these release notes do not tell you
MetaQuotes does not say how long a terminal left on build 5320 can keep connecting to broker servers, or what failed on Windows 7 before build 6090. No MetaQuotes note reviewed here names Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 or 2008 R2; the version-number match above is Microsoft's, not a MetaQuotes statement about MT5.
Broker-supplied MT5 installers were not checked, though PineConnector's guide accepts a broker's distribution that meets its setup requirements.[19] Nothing was installed on Windows 7, 8 or a server version for this page.
Frequently asked questions
Does MT5 still support Windows 7?
Windows 7 is outside the current installation guidance. MetaQuotes says MetaTrader 5 build 5320, announced on 25 September 2025, was the last update to support Windows 7, and that desktop platforms on it would no longer receive updates. Build 6090 (30 July 2026) disabled the AI Assistant on Windows 7 while listing a Windows 7 fix. As of 25 September 2026, MetaQuotes' MT5 installation help lists only Windows 10/11.
Does MetaTrader 5 work on Windows 8.1?
Not as a supported system. MetaQuotes stopped supporting Windows 8.1 after MetaTrader 5 build 5320, announced on 25 September 2025; the same note covers Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2008. As of 25 September 2026, the MT5 installation help lists only Windows 10/11. Microsoft ended Windows 8.1 support on 10 January 2023, and PineConnector's EA guide does not list it.
Why is MT5 not working on Windows 7?
MetaQuotes ended MT5 support for Windows 7 after build 5320, so Windows 7 is outside its supported systems. For a platform that will not launch, the build 6090 note says not to uninstall it but to reinstall the new version on top, with existing settings retained subject to the installation guide's exceptions for default profiles, templates and standard MQL5 programs. The same build disabled the AI Assistant on Windows 7. MetaQuotes does not document which later builds run on Windows 7.
Can I run MT5 on Windows Server 2012?
MetaQuotes' MT5 release notes from build 5320 to 6230 do not name Windows Server 2012 or 2012 R2, and its installation help lists only Windows 10/11 as of 25 September 2026. Microsoft ended support for both server versions on 10 October 2023. PineConnector's FAQ says its self-hosted EA guidance covers Windows Server 2016 and newer supported versions, not Server 2012.
