You can install MetaTrader 5 on a Mac and trade manually with it, and there are four ways to run a TradingView-to-MT5 automation from a Mac. Three of them involve running MT5 on Windows somewhere: a manual Wine setup on the Mac itself, a Windows virtual machine, or a Windows VPS. The fourth, PineConnector Edge, is managed MT5 hosting included in every PineConnector plan, so nothing is installed on your Mac at all. This guide is the step-by-step Mac how-to: it explains why the standard Mac install is not enough for automation, then walks through each route. Who this is for: Mac users who already have a TradingView strategy and a broker account on MetaTrader 5, and want to know which setup to build. If you trade on MetaTrader 4 or depend on third-party Expert Advisors, the hosted route will not fit you; the Windows VPS route will, and we say so below.
Can you run MT5 on a Mac?
For manual trading, yes. MetaQuotes ships an official macOS installer. Its own documentation describes what it does: "it identifies your system, downloads and installs the latest Wine version, configures it, and then installs MetaTrader within it", and the platform "supports all Apple processors, from M1 to the latest released versions".[1] In other words, the Mac build is the Windows program running inside Wine, a compatibility layer, packaged so you never see it.
For charts, manual orders and testing, that is perfectly usable. Automation is where it gets complicated.
Two other Mac-friendly versions rule themselves out early. MetaQuotes documents Expert Advisors as a feature of the desktop platform, and lists turning off the platform among the ways an EA stops running.[2] The web platform and the iPhone and iPad apps are not the desktop platform, so they cannot host the PineConnector EA.
Why the standard Mac install is not enough for the PineConnector EA
The self-hosted PineConnector EA relies on DLL imports: it uses a Windows software component to open the network connection that receives your TradingView alerts. On native Windows you enable DLL imports in the terminal settings and it works.[3]
The standard Mac build, as installed by MetaQuotes' wizard, does not support the EA's DLL imports, so attaching the PineConnector EA to a chart there does not work. That has been our position since this guide was first published, and it is still the answer for anyone who installs MT5 on a Mac the normal way.
It is not, however, the whole story. PineConnector publishes a manual Wine setup for Macs "running on Apple Silicon chips".[4] The steps are: install Wine through Homebrew, download the Windows MT5 installer ("We need .exe instead of .pkg"), run it under Wine, then copy the PineConnector files into the Wine copy of MT5 with a terminal command that moves PineConnector-MT5-DLL-v1.17.dll and PineConnector-MT5-EA-v3.45.ex5 into ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/MetaTrader 5/MQL5/Experts/. The page adds: "If you encountered a permission denied error after running the command, change the permission by running chmod 777".[4]
So the accurate statement is: the standard Mac install cannot run the PineConnector EA; a hand-built Wine install following PineConnector's documented steps can. That documented route is a command-line procedure, not a click-and-go install, and like anything running on your Mac it only executes while the Mac is awake and online. The documentation itself makes no claim about uptime or support status, so treat it as a workaround for people comfortable with Terminal, and test it on a demo account before relying on it.

Route 1: The manual Wine install
Follow PineConnector's MetaTrader 5 (Mac) instructions.[4] In outline: install Homebrew if you do not have it, run brew install --cask wine-stable, confirm with wine --version, download the Windows mt5setup.exe from MetaQuotes, run wine mt5setup.exe, then move the PineConnector DLL and EA files into the Wine MQL5 Experts folder and fix permissions if the copy is refused. After that, the setup is the same as on Windows: enable algorithmic trading and DLL imports, attach the EA to a chart and enter your licence ID, as covered in our TradingView to MT5 setup guide. Verify with a demo account first. Your Mac must stay awake for alerts to execute.
Route 2: Windows in a virtual machine
Parallels Desktop and similar tools give you real Windows on the Mac, so the EA runs normally. One caveat matters on Apple Silicon. Parallels' own knowledge base reports that "Metatrader 4 or recent builds of Metatrader 5 don't launch in Windows 11 on Mac computers with Apple silicon" because "the versions of the application don't support Arm architecture", and its resolution is to install an earlier MT5 build and skip updates if the latest one fails.[5] Check this against your chip before buying a licence. Boot Camp is Intel-only: Apple's guide states "With Boot Camp, you can install Microsoft Windows 10 on your Intel-based Mac" and lists no Apple Silicon models.[6] Either way, the Mac has to stay on and awake all week.
Route 3: A Windows VPS
A Windows VPS is a rented Windows machine in a data centre. MT5 runs on it exactly as designed, and you connect from your Mac over Remote Desktop when you want to check on it. Your Mac can sleep, travel or shut down. The trade-off is that the server is yours to run: Windows updates and their restarts, getting MT5 to relaunch after a reboot, and securing the remote desktop login. Route 4: PineConnector Edge, managed MT5 hosting
With PineConnector Edge, PineConnector runs the MetaTrader 5 terminal on its own infrastructure and you control it from the web portal. Nothing is installed on your Mac and nothing on your Mac has to stay awake. Edge is included in every PineConnector plan and is available now in early access.[7]
The boundaries matter. Edge hosts MT5 with the PineConnector EA and does not support custom or third-party EAs. You can view and change its hosted EA settings in Portal → Edge → EA Settings (see the EA Settings guide). Reading terminal logs is supported through the browser in Portal → Edge. The Edge guide and 17 September 2026 update document Experts and Journal logs in Portal → Edge. If your setup needs additional EAs, or an input the EA Settings tab does not offer, use the documented self-hosted route.
You still open your own broker account and enter its MT5 login yourself in the portal. The Edge page states that credentials are encrypted in transit and at rest and that your instance is isolated to you, and that "Edge is managed infrastructure, not managed execution": PineConnector runs the machine, you remain responsible for what the terminal is told to do.[7] Setup is in the portal: add an instance, choose the licence, enter your MT5 account number, password and broker server, and go live. What PineConnector costs for a Mac trader
PineConnector connects to the MT5 terminal, not to your operating system, so it works wherever MT5 runs on Windows: a Wine install, a virtual machine, a VPS or a hosted Edge instance. Every plan includes hosted MT5 through PineConnector Edge, billed monthly in US dollars:

Which route should you build?
- You enjoy Terminal and want everything on your own machine: the documented Wine install, tested on a demo account, accepting that it stops when the Mac sleeps.
- You need third-party EAs or MetaTrader 4: a Windows VPS. PineConnector Edge does not support either.
- You want your alerts executed without keeping a machine on or administering Windows: PineConnector Edge, managed MT5 hosting, with your own broker account.
Whichever you pick, finish the same way: connect a demo account, send one alert, and confirm the expected order appeared on the intended account before you go live.
FAQ
Can I run the PineConnector EA directly on my Mac?
Not with the standard MetaQuotes Mac install, which does not support the EA's DLL imports. PineConnector's documentation describes a manual Wine setup for Apple Silicon that installs the Windows MT5 and copies the EA and DLL in by hand; it is a command-line procedure and runs only while the Mac is awake.[4]
Does the official MetaQuotes Mac installer work at all?
Yes, for manual trading and chart watching. MetaQuotes' installer sets up Wine and installs MT5 inside it, and supports Apple Silicon and Intel.[1] It is not enough for the PineConnector EA on its own.
Can I use Parallels or Boot Camp instead of a VPS?
Yes, both give you real Windows. On Apple Silicon, Parallels documents that recent MT5 builds may not launch and recommends an earlier build.[5] Boot Camp is available on Intel Macs only.[6] In both cases your Mac must stay on.
Will the MT5 web or mobile version run my strategy?
No. Expert Advisors are a desktop-platform feature.[2]
What is the simplest setup for a Mac trader who only needs PineConnector's connector?
PineConnector Edge. MT5 runs on PineConnector's infrastructure, nothing is installed on your Mac, and it is included in every plan. If you rely on third-party EAs or MT4, a VPS remains the right choice.[8]
